Yellow Belt: Six Sigma fundamentals

Turn the basics into a credential. Nine self-paced modules (about 25 hours) with hands-on Excel practice in sigma level, DPMO, Pareto charts, rolled throughput yield, SIPOC and cost of quality. Pass the 40-question, 60-minute closed-book exam (a basic calculator and a provided sigma conversion table are allowed) with 70 percent to earn your Yellow Belt certification with a certification number you can verify. The modules
Y1. What Six Sigma Is (about 3 hours)
Data-driven thinking, sigma level, customer focus, variation, waste, process control and common deployment problems.
Y2. History and the Belt System (about 2 hours)
How statistical process control developed, Toyota, Motorola, GE, belt roles and certification concepts.
Y3. Other Improvement Methods (about 2 hours)
Lean, TQM, BPR, Scrum and other methods at awareness level, and how to select the right improvement approach.
Y4. Lean Foundations: Waste and 5S (about 3 hours)
The seven wastes, talent and idea waste, Type I and Type II muda, 5S and JIT basics.
Y5. Core Concepts and Basic Metrics (about 4 hours)
Standard deviation, Pareto, voice of the customer, DPMO, DPU, FTY, RTY and basic Excel use.
Y6. Approaching Problems and Mapping the Process (about 3 hours)
Problem statements, 5 Whys, y=f(x), process components, basic SIPOC and introductory swimlane mapping.
Y7. Quality and Cost of Quality (about 3 hours)
CTQ, CTQ trees, cost of quality, cost of poor quality and business impact.
Y8. Projects and Teams (about 3 hours)
Project selection, team roles, milestones, critical path, budgets and success measures.
Y9. DMAIC and DMADV Overview (about 2 hours)
A phase-by-phase orientation, and when each roadmap fits.
The exam
- 40 questions in 60 minutes.
- Written and closed book. A basic calculator and a provided sigma conversion table are allowed.
- 70% to pass.
- No project required.
- Pass and you get a certification number you can verify.
